The to-do list of a Sales Manager/ Business Development Manager
As a Sales Manager/ Business Development Manager your to-do list is different every day. Your activities within sales can be focused on a particular market (Industrial, Medical, Automotive, Infra & Energy) or on a particular technology program (High End Computing, Power Conversion, Motion & Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Vision & Sensing, Internet of Things). You are the commercial expert and first contact for this market segment or technology program. However, you work closely within a multi-disciplinary team to expand the opportunities for the company. You are the Business Case Owner and you translate the requests from the customer to the internal organization. You can discuss on a technical level with the customer and you can identify and seize opportunities.
At the same time you are responsible for the offer, negotiations and finally to close the deal. After the deal is closed, you maintain the customer relationship, anticipate changes in the scope of agreement and maintain close contact with the Project Leader internally to stay aligned on planning, effort, costs, etc. Besides that you are travelling 20 to 30 percent of the time to prospects, customers and visiting exhibitions.
