Board stress analysis for AET Tool Development
Prodrive Technologies is a developer and manufacturer of world-class electronics. It comprises over 1300 employees and is one of the fastest growing companies in Europe. Our organization is mostly based on two groups: Development and Operations. The Development department is oriented at developing first-class electronic, mechanic and software solutions. The operations department is responsible for production, assembly, testing and life-cycle-management of electronic products and systems in the range of 1 to more than a million pieces per year.
Prodrive produces millions of PCBs per year and to ensure the functionality of these products they are being tested with e.g. functional testing, component value testing. Test fixtures are required to interface the Device Under Test (DUT) to the automated electronic test (AET) system. When a DUT is tested in the fixture various forces are put on the DUT on multiple places. An unbalance in fixture force can lead to bended DUT’s, which again can cause test contact problems or product quality problems.
Board Stress Analysis (BSA) isn’t yet integrated in the design of the current test fixtures. Therefore it’s unclear whether or not the DUT is mechanically stressed, which can lead to quality issues. The goal of this assignment is to investigate the possibilities of integrating BSA structurally in our fixture design process.
- Pre-study document (literature study) of possible solutions.
