The Test Design Tool (TDT) is our hub for automatically generating production tests
At Prodrive we have developed software to automatically generate production tests for both our in-house designed products, as well as our OEM products. This allows us to keep test development costs low, while ensuring the industry leading quality Prodrive is famous for.
When the design files of a product are imported in our test design tool, the testability of the product is automatically analyzed. For example, by recognizing to which nets tests pads or through hole pins are connected, we determine if a net can be accessed via a test probe. Furthermore, component types are determined, and if a component support IEEE 1149.x, the BSDL files are automatically added to the test project. Additionally, the interfaces (e.g. SPI, RS-232, Ethernet) exposed by each component are recognized.
Based on the properties determined by the tool, test generators propose numerous tests. Although the AET is at the heart of our test philosophy, the tool does not limit itself to electrical tests; it can also generate tests for our optical and x-ray test equipment. Based on a graph model representing the netlist, our ICT and boundary scan test generators propose electrical test for our AET platform. Currently a lot of time and research is devoted to use the recognized interfaces to automatically generate functional tests as well. The generators not only propose a test, but also the probes that are required to execute the test, which are be used in our interconnect generation process.
Instead of fixating on test coverage, we focus on quality. Backed up by our huge pool of historical data, we determine the risk of each component and each solder connection. Testing components that have no risk or that are already tested is superfluous. We therefore only add tests targeted at the components that do incur risk. This allows us to generate tests that do not clog up our production line, while remaining confident that our products will be of the best possible quality.
