Air pollution is a serious threat to human health. PM2.5, also known as fine particles, can cause various health issues and is known to decrease life expectancy. The PM2.5 concentration in the air is therefore an important indicator of air quality. Measuring fine particles provides much-needed insight to improve air quality inside a car.
The dual-channel PM2.5 sensor measures fine particles inside and outside the car simultaneously. These measurements can be used to implement a strategy to control the heating / ventilation / air-conditioning (HVAC) system in the vehicle. For instance, the fresh air intake, filtering, and recirculation control can be regulated based on the interior and exterior fine particle levels to improve the air quality in the car. The information can also be used to inform the driver about interior and exterior air quality. Furthermore, the performance of the vehicle’s air filtering system can be shown.
