About the role:

We are looking for an experienced AI Engineer (Technical) to join our team. In this role, you will own the end-to-end prototyping and development of AI solutions, applying a strong focus on quality and reliability. You will be provided with an Apple laptop for development purposes.

You will design and implement secure, cloud- and on-prem-ready AI systems that meet our standards for IP protection and governance. You will make measurable architectural choices balancing accuracy, latency, and cost.

You will report to the AI Director and collaborate closely with IT on architecture and security alignment. Typical projects include:

  • A QMS agent for process intelligence and employee onboarding
  • Document ingestion and auto-classification pipelines
  • Chatbots based on existing manuals and work instructions using the Microsoft eco-system, and specific local chatbots/CV in our unique factory setting

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI agents using frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, and Fabric.
  • Build and optimize Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Implement OCR, computer vision, and document classification solutions for automation.
  • Deploy local LLMs and chatbots with a focus on quality, latency, and IP safety.
  • Integrate databases (vector, relational, API connectors) into AI solutions.
  • Architect cloud and on-premise AI systems with scalability and GPU awareness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to turn complex business problems into working AI prototypes.
  • Independently build end-to-end proof-of-concepts (POCs) and iterate quickly.
  • Balance innovation speed with maintainability and security.
  • Develop solutions with evaluation and test datasets; track precision/recall, hallucination rate, latency, and drift over time.
  • Produce technical docs and handover checklists (runbooks, eval reports, risk/mitigation notes).

Profile

  • Minimum of 3 years' hands-on AI/ML engineering shipping working prototypes into production-adjacent environments.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (plus .NET/Java/C++ for integration).

  • Experience with Azure AI stack and open-source ML tools (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace). Nice to have: experience with GPU profiling basics, and document AI toolchains Tesseract/Mistral OCR.

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD.

  • Knowledge of data pipelines, MLOps basics, and security practices for on-prem AI.

  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality, robust AI solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex solutions to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Curious, self-driven, and eager to experiment with new AI frameworks and methods.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written, Dutch is considered a plus.
