We focus on 3 sustainability pillars to minimize the social and environmental impact of our operations and maximize the positive impact of our products.
Our goal is for sustainability to become another checkpoint in our processes.
There is no “one size fits all” solution to embedding sustainability within our programs. Each product requires a different approach.
To reduce our impact on the planet we need to consider our material choices and the circularity, relating to remanufacturing and reuse, disassembly, and dematerialization of each product
Our starting point is with flagship projects:
We include specific assessments on current products, which examine the environmental impact of the product lifecycle. From material choice to end of life, these assessments help us to see where we can potentially make the product more sustainable.
We are also developing sustainability design guidelines for our engineers.
With these flagship projects, we inspire our organization more widely on the different ways in which sustainable technology can be considered.
By taking care of our physical and mental well-being, and collectively working towards a shared goal we believe we can bring out the best in our people.
Prodrivers play the most valuable role in us becoming a more sustainable organization.
This will be achieved by creating and supporting autonomous teams where self-developing specialists are trusted in their abilities, have equal opportunities for growth and creativity, and are valued for their contribution and allowing room for innovation.
We actively encourage employees to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
By expanding the reach of our internal Prodrive Technologies health platform, fitness offering, company doctor, and personal and team-building coaches. This supports their physical and mental well-being.
We conduct business in a socially and ethically responsible manner working with our supply chain to uphold human rights, international labor standards and avoid conflict minerals. We assure that all employment shall take place on a voluntary basis meaning no form of exploitive, forced, bonded, prison or indentured labor will be tolerated including victims of slavery and human trafficking. We also continue to partner with universities, enabling us to further working on sustainable innovations.
Our focus with this sustainability pillar is on waste, packaging, carbon emissions, energy reduction, and water.
We aim to make our operations as resilient and sustainable as possible by understanding our operational environmental footprint.
We are tackling each of these focus areas
Having systems in place that for example actively monitor our energy consumption per process, gives us the tools to guide our reduction objectives. We also closely monitor our waste stream to ensure waste is not sent to landfills unessisarily. One way we are doing this is by working towards a high level of automation at our production sites allowing us to reduce waste and opportunities for error. Initiatives such as transitioning to renewable energy, generating our own energy, and transitioning to a more electric car fleet are also in place. We also take great pride in collaborating with our customers and suppliers to measure, monitor, and reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Through these actions, we will lower the negative environmental impact of our operations.
Our global management system is an integrated management system incorporating a number of different certification schemes and management systems amongst our locations. Our locations are certified to a collection of standards as displayed below.

Sustainability is something we can only achieve together. Our 2030 sustainability strategy is therefore aligned with the world’s blueprint for action: the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This set of 17 global goals seeks to secure a better and more sustainable future and world for all. In support of these global goals our company focuses on contributing to those where we can have the biggest impact.
By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix
We develop technologies and energy infrastructures which increase the capacity for storing renewable energy. By investing in development of this technology we are contributing to making it a stronger economic proposition, which in turn leads to a higher uptake of renewable energy in the global energy mix. This also reduces our global reliance on fossil fuels.
We are expanding the use of renewable energy in our operations and offices. At our site in the United States, we already have placed solar panels on our buildings.
By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency
We are continually working to improve the energy efficiency of our products so that these consume less electricity.
In our own operations and facilities, we seek to be as energy efficient as possible, including retrofitting our buildings with energy efficient lighting.
Achieve higher levels of economic productivity through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high value added and labour-intensive sectors
Innovation, development and growth is at the heart of what we do. We are focused on innovating, diversifying our products and services, and upgrading technology. This allows us to keep developing and producing high-value added products, increasing our levels of economic productivity.
By 2030, achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men, including for young people and persons with disabilities, and equal pay for work of equal value
Our people are our biggest asset. We strive to provide them with excellent working conditions and a safe, inclusive, healthy, and open work environment. We provide equal pay for work of equal value, regardless of age, gender or race.
By 2030, substantially reduce the proportion of youth not in employment, education or training
We aim to invest in young people and facilitate their growth, the average age of our employees being 28. We seek to continually expand this, having sustained a 25% annual growth in employees over the last 20 years.
Our company has a strong record of collaboration with universities and student groups. We offer students opportunities to gain experience and skills, thereby also helping them to improve their job prospects.
By 2030, upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes, with all countries taking action in accordance with their respective capabilities
We continue to develop and invest in fitting our buildings with technology which helps make our operations more sustainable. Through such innovation we are also working toward a higher level of automation at our production sites, allowing us to reduce waste and human error. We also work to achieve a high level of energy efficiency, in line with our office buildings.
We are committed to embedding circular design principles into all our newly introduced products. We are therefore placing a greater focus on resource-use efficiency and how to develop and improve processes to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries, in particular developing countries, including, by 2030, encouraging innovation and substantially increasing the number of research and development workers per 1 million people and public and private research and development spending
As leading innovators, we continue to make significant investments in research and development. More than half of our employees are also actively focused on research, development and engineering.
With our employees, and by partnering with other companies and knowledge institutions, we seek to play our part in the innovation ecosystem.
By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources
Through our commitment to incorporate more circular design principles into our newly introduced products, we are focused on sustainable management and efficient use of resources. To become more responsible, we will keep the scarcity and embedded energy of resources in mind from the outset of a product's lifecycle.
By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their lifecycle, in accordance with agreed international frameworks, and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment
We adhere to (national) regulations and standards regarding the management of chemicals, waste and materials. For over a decade we have also been certified for the environmental management standard ISO14001.
By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
We continually strive to improve our waste program and processes to reduce waste. In line with our ambitions to be more circular we are exploring how we can better integrate prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse in our processes. Alongside this we are actively trying to improve energy efficiency throughout our products’ lifecycles, contributing to reducing waste, as well as achieving a higher level of reuse and value retention along throughout the value chain.
Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
Our business is committed to making our operations as resilient and sustainable as possible. By adopting a sustainability strategy with objectives which act on the need to decarbonize and future-proof our company we help to combat climate change and its effects.
